Stony Brook Southampton will celebrate the holiday season with the annual Windmill Lighting on Friday, December 7, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The Voices of Southampton High School will sing holiday classics as the exterior of the Windmill is lit. Guests are then invited to a reception in Chancellors Hall. Enjoy hot cocoa, holiday treats, a caricaturist, balloon magic and crafts for the children. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
Please RSVP to Laura.Lyons@stonybrook.edu.
The 300-year-old windmill is currently undergoing repairs following damage from Hurricane Irene in 2011. The yoke that supports its blades was cracked, and the windmill had been without its crown. Repairs are slated to be completed in time for the lighting ceremony.
Following the Windmill Lighting, the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences will be sponsoring a lecture entitled “Shifts Happen: How Will Climate Change Affect Fish and Fisheries?” by Stony Brook’s Janet A. Nye. The lecture will be held at 7:30 pm in Duke Lecture Hall.
