Teachers and healthcare professionals will put down the books and stethoscopes and pick up the golf clubs to participate in the Seventh Annual Long Island Educators and Healthcare Professionals Cup Golf Tournament. The event is sponsored by the Ride for Life, an organization that raises awareness of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and funds to help find a cure for the disease. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the ALS Comprehensive Care Center at Stony Brook University Medical Center, the only ALS Association Certified Center on Long Island. The event takes place on Monday, October 12, at the Spring Lake Golf Course in Middle Island.

Proceeds from the tournament will also help fund the Ride for Life ALS Scholarship Program, which assists students whose families have been impacted by ALS. Each year one or more high school seniors receive the scholarship to further his or her education. To date more than $80,000 in scholarships has been awarded to high school seniors from Long Island.

Registration for the golf tournament is open. Tickets include pre-golf continental breakfast, 18 holes of golf, range balls, and a post-play luncheon. Tickets are $145 per individual golfer. Sponsorships are also available. Tee signs are $100 per sign.

For more information about the tournament or to purchase tickets, call 444-1292.
