In commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, shops and restaurants in the Stony Brook Village Center will literally put out the Welcome Mat and participate in a festive Ladies Night Out on Thursday, October 16, from 6 pm to 9 pm.
The evening will include live music with WALK-97.5, food specials, sales, pink cocktails, raffles and more. Visitors will be welcomed to shops and restaurants by a striking blue “Welcome Mat” with the pink ribbon signifying support of breast cancer research for most of the month of October as well as Ladies Night Out. Upon arrival they can also pick up a free goodie bag at LOFT filled with surprises from shops and restaurants. Only 250 bags will be handed out, so visitors must register online at wmho.org/ladies to receive one. Many of the participating retailers will also donate a percentage of proceeds from the evening to breast cancer research at Stony Brook Medicine.
The event, hosted by the Ward Melville Heritage Organization (WMHO), precedes the organization’s 21st Annual Walk for Beauty…in a Beautiful Place, which takes place on Sunday, October 26. WMHO has reinvented the Walk this year to include a 4K/6K Color Walk and the inaugural Hercules on the Harbor 10K timed Run, which is sanctioned by USA Track & Field. All proceeds go directly to the targeted research fund at Stony Brook Medicine for Breast Cancer Research and the WMHO Unique Boutique for prosthesis and wigs.
