Journalist and photographer Steve Rosenfield brings his What I Be project to Stony Brook University in an effort to empower students and faculty through the recognition of their insecurities. Rosenfield created the project from his passion for helping those around him feel valued despite their insecurities. He has visited many universities around the nation, such as Columbia, Duke and Princeton, and is now coming to Stony Brook with his unique program.
During his week-long stay on campus from May 5 through May 9, Rosenfield will hold 45-minute interviews with students to discuss their insecurities. At the conclusion of the interviews, Rosenfield will write words that the students have chosen defining their said insecurities. These will be photographed and captioned, “I am not my _______,” and the pictures will then be posted on Facebook and the website.
At the end of the week, Rosenfield will have a two-hour presentation displaying and sharing all of the work he has photographed during the week. This event will be held on Friday, May 9, at 8 pm in the Student Activities Center Auditorium.
This project is sponsored by the Division of Campus Residences in accordance with Counseling and Psychological Services, Center for Prevention and Outreach, and To Write Love on Her Arms.
The interview portion of the project is completely filled, but there is a waitlist in case students that have already signed up decide they do not want to participate. If you would like to be added to the waitlist, please send an email to lauren.balsamo@stonybrook.edu.
