Open Forum and Conversation on Energy and Sustainability
On Thursday, February 4, SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher and approximately 200 SUNY delegates will visit Stony Brook. As part of Chancellor Zimpher’s strategic planning efforts, she has visited all of the SUNY institutions and is participating in meetings and discussions at seven campuses throughout the state on topics related to the future of SUNY and its institutions. The fifth conversation on Energy and Sustainability will take place at Stony Brook.
The Open Forum begins at 8:30 am in the Student Activities Center Auditorium. This is a prime opportunity for the campus and greater communities to comment on SUNY’s Strategic Plan 2010. (Visit www.suny.edu/StrategicPlan for more information or to submit questions or comments.)
A Conversation on Energy and Sustainability will take place following the Forum at 10:00 am, featuring keynote speaker Steven E. Koonin, Under Secretary for Science in the U.S. Department of Energy. Koonin’s address to the Stony Brook community will be followed by a question-and-answer period.
As one of the state’s largest energy consumers, SUNY has a special responsibility to slash our energy consumption. SUNY is aiming for nothing less than becoming an international leader in solving the global energy challenge and becoming the greenest public university system in the world. Your input is needed to help ensure that SUNY is moving in the right direction by encouraging smart and informed debate, promoting green technology, creating jobs, and fostering more prosperous and sustainable communities for generations to come.
The public portion of the event concludes at 11:30 am.
