Student Health Services and Campus Recreation have partnered to provide students with easier access to health services at a convenient new location. The Student Health Walk-In Clinic opened its doors on the second floor of the Walter J. Hawrys Recreation Center on Tuesday, February 21. Visited by approximately 3,000 students daily, the Recreation Center is a lively student hub on campus, making it an ideal location for students to get a checkup or vaccine.

“There are many students who schedule time in their day to exercise, and the Walk-In Clinic makes it easier on our busy students to pay a visit before or after their workouts,” said Jay Souza, Campus Recreation Director.

Some of the services that will be provided are treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, vaccinations such as the flu shot and HPV vaccine, and health coaching. Students will still need to visit the Student Health Center for lab testing or to pick up prescription medications.

“By partnering with Campus Recreation, we are offering an integrated approach to student health and wellness. Student access to care is a priority. We’re bringing health services to the student, rather than the student seeking the services, making it more convenient for our students to use them,” said Dr. Marisa Bisiani, Assistant Vice President of Student Health, Counseling and Outreach Services.

The health services at the Walk-In Clinic are available to all full-time undergraduate and graduate students, including those students who do not have access to the Campus Recreation Center. These students will need to notify the front desk that they would like to be seen by the nurse practitioner at the Walk-In Clinic.

The clinic is open every Tuesday and Friday from 12 pm to 4 pm. Appointments are available but not necessary. For more information, visit stonybrook.edu/walkinclinic.
