Stony Brook is among 12 SUNY campuses that will host a regional recitation competition for high school students as part of New York’s Poetry Out Loud Contest, which is held simultaneously across the United States.
SUNY has partnered with the Teachers & Writers Collaborative, National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, and Poetry Foundation to facilitate the program.
“SUNY is proud to partner with the Teachers & Writers Collaborative and New York State Council on the Arts, and open its doors again to such an important national competition,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. “These events provide a valuable learning experience for so many of our high school students, and it is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate literary talent in our local communities.”
The regional competition at Stony Brook University will be held on Wednesday, February 15, at 6 pm (snow date: February 28) in the Charles B. Wang Center. All competitions are free and open to the public.
The State Finals will be held on March 10 in Syracuse, and the National Finals will be held April 25 and 26 at George Washington University.
