Stony Brook Among Top 100 Schools That Embrace Social Media

In an August 6 Huffington Post article, Stony Brook ranks among The Top 100 Best and Most Collaborative US Colleges based on the University’s engagement with social media networks and its interaction with followers.

Author Vala Afshar, CMO and Chief Customer Officer for Enterasys Networks, measured the social media influence of US News & World Report’s Top 100 list based on combined Klout and Kred scores, measuring each institution’s engagements across all major social platforms. In their respective algorithms, Klout and Kred calculate the influence of various social media accounts, considering factors such as network outreach, participation and engagement. Overall Stony Brook ranked #70 (higher than the US News ranking at #92) and as one of the top 25 medium-sized schools.

“A 2012 study noted that students are choosing colleges with social media clout,” said Afshar. “A survey of 7,000 high school students revealed that university social media accounts influenced their selections.”

“Social media is increasingly providing us with new and exciting opportunities for communication and collaboration with students and members of our community,” said Stefan Hyman, Director of Enrollment Communications at Stony Brook University. “We are very proud of our accomplishments in building inclusive virtual communities on multiple social platforms, which foster sharing and learning.”
