The ranking highlights universities like Stony Brook that have a strong history of creating quality programming for the LGBTQ community and committing time and resources to equipping students, faculty and staff with tools that encourage education, support, safety and inclusion campus wide.

Stony Brook’s LGBTQ* Services has a committed staff that provides meaningful programs to help students thrive and to ensure inclusion in every aspect of the University. In addition to these services, the University also has many all-gender restrooms on campus as well as gender-inclusive housing options.

The College Choice ranking started with a base list of regionally accredited universities that are highly rated by Campus Pride, a website that rates the LBGTQ friendliness of colleges. Schools were then evaluated and ranked based on academic reputation, student satisfaction, affordability, average financial aid awarded and return on investment. The LGBTQ ranking is directly connected to the other factors students consider to be most important.
