SBU Competing in National “RecycleMania” Tournament

Recyclemania 1

RecyclemaniaRecycleMania is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities. Each spring universities across the United States and Canada report the amount of recycling and trash collected and are ranked in various recycling categories against each other. The products targeted for recycling during RecycleMania are paper (newspapers, magazines, text books and notebooks), bottles and cans, food waste and e-waste. The 2012 RecycleMania Tournament runs from now through March 30, 2012.

National recognition is provided to the winning school in each category on the RecycleMania website and in a national press release. Winning schools receive an award made out of recyclable materials and win the right to host that category’s special traveling trophy for the coming year.

This is the perfect time to clean out your department, office or workspace and help the University’s recycling efforts. If you are interested in scheduling a clean out or have any questions, please contact the Office of Sustainability / Recycling and Resource Management at (631) 632-6400, and they will coordinate the recycling bin drop off and pickup.
