Stony Brook University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD, will deliver the annual State of the University Address on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, beginning at 1:00 pm at the Staller Center Main Stage. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend.

By tradition, each year the president addresses the assembled University community, summarizing the events and accomplishments of the previous year while looking forward to future milestones. New faculty and key administrators are introduced and welcomed.
This year’s address will also highlight 60 years of accomplishments since the University’s founding and discuss challenges and goals of the coming years.
Last year’s address acknowledged expected budgetary complications but reinforced the University’s commitment to access to excellence, highlighting the economic development and groundbreaking commitments on both main and Medicine campuses. The President drew attention to unprecedented diversity initiatives, celebrated faculty research that received attention around the world, and emphasized the importance of continued federal, state and philanthropic support.
