Origami Heaven at the Wang Center

Origami10 1

origami10July 31 to August 6

The Charles B. Wang Center and the Long Island Folding Enthusiasts present Origami Heaven 2010, featuring the Celebration of Celebrations Origami Exhibition, which will be held at the Wang Center, Room 201, from Saturday, July 31, through Friday, August 6. A special Origami Heaven Festival will be held on Wednesday, August 4, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The Origami Exhibition brings to you the intricate art of creating sculptures through folder paper. The exhibition features a diverse group of origami artists from across the United States and the globe who breathe new life into familiar holidays and introduce you to new holidays through their sculptures. Some of the holidays include Chinese New Year, Hinamatsuri and Tango no Sekku (Japanese Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day), the American birthday party, Christmas, Purim, and the Hindu festival of Dassera.

The Origami Heaven 2010 Festival will also be bringing back storigami (teaching origami through storytelling), a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, puppetry, and, of course, teaching tables and workshops with the Long Island Folding Enthusiasts to help you make origami.

The Celebration of Celebrations Exhibition is free and open to the public. There is a suggested donation of $5 for materials for the Origami Heaven Festival. All ages are welcome.
