The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program and the Alumni Relations Department at Stony Brook sponsored an Engineering Panel on March 9. Eighty students attended and listened to professionals from different companies talk about how college influenced their career decisions. The panelist discussed their careers and how being women in college in their majors had advantages and disadvantages.
The panel was moderated by Sanche Graham, President of the WISE Student Leadership Council. Panel participants included Stony Brook alumna Ericka Balanzategui from BAE Systems, Stony Brook alumna Jennifer Millard from Omnicon, Victoria O’Connor from Motorola, and Noreen Thompson from Computer Associates.
The students had an opportunity to enjoy a meal while networking with the professionals. The Alumni Relations Department provided the Brook Alumni Room and food for the event. Stephanie Neidhart Tarantino and Russell Malbrough from the Alumni Relations Department invited some of the speakers on the panel and also gave information to the students about the services offered by the Alumni Association.
“It is important for students to have successful role models to share their experiences and provide encouragement,” said WISE Director Carrie-Ann Miller.
