Distance Education at SBU Symposium September 27

The Faculty Center and School of Professional Development are hosting a symposium, Surveying the Landscape of Distance Education at Stony Brook, on Friday, September 27, from 9 am to 3:30 pm in the Student Activities Center, Ballroom B. It will provide an overview of online teaching and learning at Stony Brook and will give those interested in teaching online the chance to talk with instructors and ask questions.

The symposium will showcase various delivery models, technologies, departments and schools offering programs to students at a distance. If you teach online, are designing your first online course or are just curious about teaching and learning using electronic formats, the Online Education Symposium will provide an open, interactive opportunity to talk with veteran online Stony Brook faculty about their courses delivered in synchronous, asynchronous and blended formats.

Carey Hatch

The featured speaker is Carey Hatch, Associate Provost of Academic Technologies and Instructional Services and Executive Director of SUNY Learning Network and Open SUNY. Stony Brook University Provost Dennis Assanis and Chuck E. Powell, Executive Director of Teaching, Learning and Technology and Assistant Provost at Stony Brook, will also speak about distance education at SBU.

Have questions on the electronic tools that will fit with your teaching preferences and student learning needs? Talk with the online faculty and professional staff available to answer your questions and concerns about technologies, course design, assessment, student identity and authentication in online classrooms and state authorization regulations.
