More than 75 students from Bayport-Blue Point High School and Comsewogue High School visited Stony Brook University on May 18 to hear about career opportunities from local business professionals. The breakfast meeting, held at the Charles B. Wang Center, featured roundtable discussions on a variety of career paths such as law, journalism, computers, human resources and healthcare. The students asked questions and listened intently as the professionals shared their experiences of their chosen field.
After the roundtable talks, Dean Rob Pertusati gave a presentation to the students on “Preparing for College Admissions: A Pathway to Success.” Michael Plugues, a Bayport-Blue Point mathematics teacher who is a Stony Brook alum and one of the event organizers, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity. “This is a great way to connect the University and the local high schools,” said Plugues. “Some students don’t realize what a powerhouse is right here in their own backyard.”
The event ended with a walking tour of the campus.
