Celebrate Earth Day 2019 at Stony Brook

Ducks

Earthstock, Stony Brook University’s annual celebration of Earth Day, features a week of educational and social events that culminate in the Earthstock Festival on the Academic Mall on Friday, April 19, from 11 am to 3 pm (Rain Location: Student Activities Center). Earthstock is free and open to the public.

Everyone enjoys the annual Duck Race.
The annual Duck Race always draws a crowd.

Enjoy environmental and educational displays and exhibits, live music, and student performances and research displays. As always, the popular Duck Race will be held at 2 pm in “The Brook” adjacent to the Administration Building. Ducks can be purchased for $2 at the Student Activities Center, Room 222, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm. Prizes are awarded for the first and last duck.

Climatologist Michael MannFeature Presentation

Prominent climate scientist and geophysicist Michael Mann will present this year’s keynote address, offering a somewhat lighthearted take on a very serious issue — the threat of human-caused climate change and what to do about it, based on his collaboration with Washington Post editorial cartoonist Tom Toles. Mann, Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science at Penn State University, will present his lecture, “Return to the Madhouse: Climate Denial in the Age of Trump,” on Friday April 19, at 3 pm in the Wang Center Theater.
