CBS News Broadcast Highlights “SB Guardian” App

CBS New York featured “SB Guardian,” a new safety app soon to be made available to Stony Brook students, on its TV news broadcast of September 12, 2014.

The downloadable mobile app, a portable version of the Blue Light phone system, will permit students to set safety timers as they travel from one location on campus to another. The app also features a panic call button, which will instantly indicate the caller’s location on campus, facilitating a faster response by police or other emergency responders.

“It allows us to have much more actionable intelligence before we get to the scene than if someone was calling 911 traditionally,” Asst. Chief of Police, Lawrence Zacarese told CBS-2 reporter Tracee Carrasco.

The CBS-2 report can be viewed here.

More information is available on Stony Brook’s Emergency Management page.
