Icon29ShirtArtFrom March 26 through March 28, Stony Brook hosted I-Con, the largest sci-fi, fantasy, and anime convention in the northeast. With thousands of guests in attendance, this year’s event was bigger and better than ever.

The University Bookstore had its table in the dealer’s room to provide attendees with access to dozens of graphic novels and science-fiction books, all of which they carry in the store year-round. Additionally, the bookstore had the complete selection of works by this year’s guest of honor, Robert J. Sawyer, available for sale. The Hugo Award-winning science-fiction author is also the writer and creator of ABC’s hit series FlashForward. Sawyer was seated next to the bookstore’s table so that guests were able to get books signed by the legendary author. The bookstore’s extensive in-store science fiction section holds many of Sawyer’s titles. Also available are novels on vampires, zombies, and ghosts, Star Wars and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Marvel, DC, and Manga comics, the video games Halo and Gears of War, and more.

I-Con is a great opportunity for sci-fi and fantasy enthusiasts to come together to discuss fan fiction, popular books and movies, and to exchange ideas with fans from all across the northeast. I-Con has given the University Bookstore exposure to readers with varied literary interests.

The University Bookstore is located on the lower level of the Melville Library. Store hours and a list of upcoming Campus Life Time Events are available at www.stonybrook.edu/bookstore. For more information on I-Con, visit www.iconsf.org.
