The annual Stony Brook Cares/SEFA United Way Campaign helps local, national and international organizations in their mission to deliver vital services in our communities. Stony Brook Cares provides a unique opportunity for faculty and staff to support local affiliated charities and human services agencies that in turn help the elderly, provide childcare, assist the disabled, provide support to families in need and help the many veterans who live in our communities.

Giving to Stony Brook Cares is simple, and contributions can be directed to specific agencies including seven that go directly toward funds that are exclusive to the University: Stony Brook Child Care Services, Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, University Hospital Auxiliary, The Hardship Fund, General Scholarship Fund, Stony Brook Children’s Hospital Fund and US Military Personnel Scholarship Fund. Two additional agencies – Charles Thide Foundation and Literacy Suffolk – are affiliated with Stony Brook, but also help others in our community. Alternatively, you may allow your undesignated gifts to be distributed through local SEFA and United Way committees.

Charitable giving is a very personal decision. SEFA gives you a simple and effective way to choose an amount for your tax-deductible contribution and to specify which organizations will receive your support. By supporting them through SEFA (managed locally by the United Way of Long Island) you can be sure that your giving will target the needs you feel are most important.

Lynn Johnson, vice president for Human Resource Services at Stony Brook University, is this year’s campaign chair. The downloadable pledge and payroll deduction authorization forms can be found at these links:
