Ruth Benedict is considered one of the pioneers of cultural anthropology. She conceived cultures as total constructs of intellectual, religious and aesthetic elements. Later in life, she became a poet who went by the pen name, Anne Singleton. She is best known for her works “November Burning” and “Dead Star.”
