10 Facts About Black History at Stony Brook

9. SBU African American students are also building a stronger presence in the historically underrepresented STEM fields. Aisha Haynes ’08 is a research mechanical engineer assigned to the Army’s Armament Research. She served as competency manager for a team that supports multiple Army programs and was the 2017 recipient of the BEYA (Black Engineer of the Year Awards) Modern Day Technology Leader Award. NASA Navigation & Mission Engineer Sabrina Thompson ’07 has led research and development efforts for technology demonstrations for future deep-space exploration. Her resume includes the development of mission designs and the performance of orbit analyses for CubeSat spaceflight missions.
