
8. Former US Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien, a Long Island native and daughter of a Stony Brook professor, received Honorary Degrees at Stony Brook’s May 2016 Commencement. Holder became the first African American to serve as Attorney General and was granted an Honorary Doctorate of Law, while O’Brien received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters. Together, they delivered the commencement address to the class of 2016.
