STONY BROOK, NY, July 1, 2021 – Susan Y. Lee, MD, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine, was elected Governor of the New York Long Island Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the largest medical specialty organization and second largest physician group in the U.S. consisting of more than 160,000 members.
Dr. Lee, practicing at Stony Brook Medicine since 1997, will serve a four-year term. Governors are elected by local ACP members. Dr. Lee has been an ACP Fellow since 1999. Her contributions to ACP throughout her fellowship include serving as a physician leader for NYACP/Costs of Care Early Adopter Program, and a QI champion/physician leader for ACP’s Improving Immunization Rates. She was previously named to the ACP Immunization Committee for the 2021-22 term.

“My involvement in the ACP Long Island Chapter is an honor and in doing so I have been able to collaborate with other members for both patient and physician advocacy, medical education and mentorship,” says Dr. Lee.
Her role as Governor of the chapter will be to implement national projects and initiatives into the chapter and represent their concerns at a national level to the ACP Board of Regents. She says some of the current issues include: physician burnout, balancing work/life, electronic medical records, providing high value primary care, new payment models, and an emphasis on advocacy for patients.
Dr. Lee is an internist and the Medical Director of Stony Brook Primary Care, an accredited Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). She received her MD from New York University School of Medicine and completed post-doctoral training at New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center.
