The Stony Brook University Women’s Basketball team spent some time with pediatric patients at the Stony Brook Cancer Center. (From left to right) Christa Scognamiglio (#4), Sabre Proctor (#13), Elizabeth Manner (#24), Chikilra Goodman (#32), and Kori Bayne Walker (#11) brought some holiday cheer to children like 4-year-old Aniyah Hamman of Selden.

STONY BROOK, N.Y., December 20, 2013 – Two days before their Holiday Classic, the Stony Brook University Women’s Basketball Team stepped off the court to visit with young Seawolves fans battling cancer at Stony Brook Cancer Center.

Team spirit is what these hoopsters usually bring to the Pritchard Gymnasium, but in the true spirit of the holiday season, they brought a different kind of spirit on Thursday, December 19 during a planned visit that was set up with Stony Brook Children’s Hospital Child Life Program.

As they mingled and played with patients, the players got a chance to hand out presents and tee-shirts, shoot some hoops with the kids, and made a giant ‘Happy Holidays’ banner with the children in the playroom. The team’s efforts brought exactly what they hoped for; smiling faces and holiday joy.
