Stony Brook University Alum and Light Welterweight Champ Chris Algieri Makes Kids at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital Champs for The Day

STONY BROOK, NY, JANUARY 29, 2015 – Light Welterweight Champion Chris Algieri took some time away from the ring and training yesterday to visit patients at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. Stony Brook is familiar territory for Algieri, who graduated from the University with a bachelor’s degree in healthcare sciences in 2007. He met with patients and their parents in the Child Life Playroom the hospital where he signed autographs, took pictures and showed the kids his WBO Light Welterweight Champion belt, which resulted in a lot of smiles and ‘ooh’s and ah’s.’

Algieri, who is interest in a possible new career path – medicine – shared his winning attitude and determined spirit with the children; telling them that they were the real champs of the day and helping them realize they can overcome any obstacle.

Algieri is currently training and plans to fight again this spring.
