Stony Brook, NY, July 28, 2017 – On Wednesday, July 12, Stony Brook University Hospital held its annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon at the Hilton Garden Inn. All hospital volunteers were invited to attend and received acknowledgement for the countless hours they donate to the hospital. Many volunteers received awards for reaching service milestones ranging from 100 to 16,500 hours of service.
Many hospital departments donated beautiful baskets and gifts which were given as door prizes to the volunteers. The donations were well received and appreciated by all.
Angelina Caracci, a resident of Stony Brook, was awarded the honor of Junior Volunteer of the Year. Angelina began her service in 2014 and has donated more than 640 hours of service to the Core Lab. Angelina assists with transporting time-sensitive lab samples from the Emergency Department to the Hematology and Chemistry labs.
When asked about Angelina’s service, the Laboratory staff remarked on how she is a dedicated volunteer who is extremely cooperative and a quick study. Angelina is the Lab’s longest serving Junior Volunteer.
Mark Latino, of Stony Brook, was awarded the honor of Senior Volunteer of the Year. Mark has been volunteering in the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital Childlife playroom since 2003 and has donated over 1,700 hours of service.
Michael Attard, Child Life Specialist, describes Mark as a compassionate leader who also takes direction well and offers to help in whatever capacity he can.
