STONY BROOK, NY, AUGUST 29, 2014 – Since 2006, Stony Brook Medicine has been providing emergency medical services for The Hampton Classic in Bridgehampton, one of the most prestigious and largest horse shows in the nation. Emergency Medical Services for the event include everything from small first aid needs like bee stings to ankle sprains to larger medical issues like severe fractures to head concussions.

A few years ago Stony Brook Medicine expanded their involvement with fun and educational activities for children. The Child Life Specialists and nursing staff from Stony Brook Children’s Hospital helped kids who attended the shows understand what a hospital visit could be like using hands-on activities and answering questions. The team used dolls that the children decorated to simulate certain testing and treatment that could happen in the hospital during a visit.

Stony Brook Children’s also brought a friend this year, the talented Wendy Baner, also known as The Pipe Cleaner Lady. Baner entertained the children – and adults alike — showing that you can turn ordinary pipe cleaners into extraordinary objects – including bracelets, flowers, hats, animals and more!
