STONY BROOK, NY, March 4, 2014 – The Seawolves showed their team spirit on Saturday with a big win against the Albany Great Danes; earning a stunning 66-56 victory that halted the Great Danes’ America East conference record winning streak at 38, and winning their seventh game in a row. Monday morning, after their weekend victory, the Stony Brook University Women’s Basketball team brought that high energy and spirit off the court, and spread it around the playroom of Stony Brook University Cancer Center.

The team took a break from practice and mingled with some of the youngest Seawolves fans who were receiving treatment at the Pediatric Oncology/Hematology Clinic. The players kicked off “Child Life Month” by shooting hoops, making art, handing out tee-shirts and taking photos with the kids, all with the hopes of bringing some happiness to these young patients on a gloomy March morning.
Throughout the month of March, there are a number of fun-filled activities for pediatric patients, their families and friends hosted by The Child Life Services Department at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.
The Child Life Services Department is an integral part of the hospital experience for children. The Department’s expert and caring team members help children become more comfortable during their visit by addressing fears, clearing up common misconceptions about medical procedures and hospitalization, preparing the child appropriately, and in promoting a sense of mastery over the hospital experience in the child. This month’s events will give patients and families the opportunity to meet the Stony Brook Children’s Child Life Specialists and learn how they make pediatric patients’ visits a positive one.
