STONY BROOK, N.Y.,
November 14, 2008 – The Stony Brook University Hospital Auxiliary raised $135,000 at its annual Gala,
celebrating the Stony Brook University Heart Center with an exciting moveable feast at The Inn at East Wind in Wading River. The event was to benefit and support programs and services at the Stony Brook University Heart Center. Accepting the check from Barbara Delfyett, President of the Stony Brook University hospital Auxiliary is Dr. Todd Rosengart (left), Interim Chairman, Dept. of Surgery, Chief, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Co-Director of the Heart Center, and Dr. David Brown, Co-Director of the Heart Center and Chief, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.”The Auxiliary is proud to recognize and support the Heart Center’s many outstanding achievements and we look forward to working with them on future endeavors,” said Delfyett.
Located within Long Island’s only university-based medical center, the Stony Brook University Heart Center offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The staff includes 50 full-time and community-based, board-certified cardiologists and Cardiothoracic surgeons, as well as 350 specially trained anesthesiologists, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, operating room technicians, perfusionists, and other support staff. Their expertise enables the heart center to provide state-of-the-art interventional and surgical capabilities in 24-hour cardiac catheterization labs and surgical suites.
“The Auxiliary Gala was inspirational, and the Heart Center physicians and staff are grateful for the support of the many dedicated individuals who make up this organization and who benefit the hospital in so many ways,” said Dr. Rosengart.
“We are so proud and fortunate to be able to partner with such a generous organization as the Auxiliary,” added Dr. Brown.
To date, the Stony Brook University Hospital Auxiliary has raised more than $6 million, which has been used to support many employee activities, purchase state-of-the-art hospital equipment and enhance patient care. Some of the Auxiliary’s contributions include a birthing room, a mammographic ultrasound machine, ultrasound equipment for high-risk obstetrical cases, and life support ambulances. The Auxiliary derives its funding from the Auxiliary Gift Shop in-house vendor sales and annual fundraising events such as this year’s gala which raised the $135,000 presented to the Heart Center this year. Membership benefits include an invitation to the annual luncheon, advance notice of all special events, quarterly newsletter’s and an annual report.
