SBU Heart Center Helps American Heart Association Raise Half Million Dollars At Hamptons Summer Benefit
Event Honored Stony Brook’s Dr. Todd K. Rosengart, Distinguished Service Awardee

(AHA) Heart of the Hamptons Ball raised a net total $510,000. More than 500 people, including 100 Stony Brook University Medical Center employees, attended. Honored at the event was Todd K. Rosengart, M.D., Professor and Chair of Surgery, Chief, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Stony Brook University School of Medicine, and Co-Director, Stony Brook University Heart Center.
According to regional AHA office in Plainview, N.Y., Dr. Rosengart’s support and participation helped to secure more than $200,000 in sponsorships, donations, and ticket sales for the Heart Ball. In addition to being the 2011 event honoree, Dr. Rosengart also received the Distinguished Service Award for his work in cardiovascular medicine and support of the AHA.
“This year’s Heart of the Hamptons Ball was the highest revenue generating event yet,” said Robert McBride, 2011 Heart of the Hamptons Chair and Vice President of Park Strategies, LLC.
Special guests at the ball included emcee Rosanna Scotto, co-host of Good Day New York on WNYW-Fox 5; Greg Buttle, former New York Jet and radio personality, and the event auctioneer; and television personality and fellow honoree Star Jones, known for her role on Celebrity Apprentice and as a AHA National Volunteer.
Also recognized, receiving the Distinguished Leadership Award, was Charles A. Gargano, former Chair and CEO, Empire State Development, and Vice Chair, Port Authority NY & NJ.
Bringing the mission of the evening to light were Westhampton Beach High School students Casey Fuchs and Haley Schoeck. They shared their compelling stories about how each of them had lost their fathers to fatal heart attacks.
The evening’s entertainment included the musical talent of East End Entertainment’s Uptown, a live DJ, and delicious and heart healthy foods catered by Sterling Affair.
