Stony Brook Children’s Hospital Chief Receives Child Abuse Prevention Services Distinguished Service Award

Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Stony Brook University School of Medicine, received the Distinguished Service to Children Award from the Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS) for her demonstrated commitment to children and dedication to their continued well-being. 

CAPS honored three individuals committed to the well-being, health and safety of children at its 26th Annual Spring Luncheon at The Carltun, East Meadow. Receiving awards in addition to Dr. McGovern were Kevin S. Law, President and CEO, Long Island Association, who received the CAPS Champion for Long Island Award for his community service; and, Rosanna Scotto, co-host of FOX 5 Good Day New York, who received the CAPS Community Leadership Award for her efforts to create awareness around the issues of child abuse and neglect, and bullying among school-age children through her work. Scotto was also the keynote speaker.

About Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital

Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital is Suffolk County’s only children’s hospital. More than 7,000 children and adolescents are admitted each year. Stony Brook Children’s operates 100 pediatric beds and has more than 100 full time pediatric physicians and surgeons and over 200 voluntary pediatric faculty members in 30 different specialties. The hospital is the Level 4 Regional Perinatal Center for our area and has a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It is home to the nation’s first Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Center and also offers a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Program, Pediatric Cardiology Program, Pediatric HIV and AIDS Center, Cystic Fibrosis Center and the Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.
