Walk for Beauty Kickoff Event to Feature “Pink Glove Dance” Videotaping
Event to feature videotaping for national “Pink Glove Dance” competition
STONY BROOK, N.Y., July 23, 2012 – Get out your pink gloves and get ready to dance! The 19th annual Walk for Beauty will hold its kick-off event on Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Three Village Inn in Stony Brook Village to jump start fundraising efforts for breast cancer research and patient support at Stony Brook University Cancer Center. The event will feature videotaping of participants in a “Pink Glove Dance” video for Stony Brook University Cancer Center.
The Pink Glove Dance is a national event organized by MedLine to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Since the original video was created two years ago, it has since generated more 13 million views on YouTube and inspired countless pink glove dance videos and events around the world. This year, MedLine is sponsoring an online nationwide competition to find the best Pink Glove Dance video. Hospitals, nursing homes, schools and individuals across the U.S. and Canada will be producing and submitting Pink Glove Dance videos.
Regardless of whether you wish to dance in the video, the public is invited to attend the Walk for Beauty kickoff from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $20, which covers advance registration costs for the walk. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served, and prizes will be raffled. To RSVP, call (631) 444-4000 by Friday, Aug. 10.
The honoree for this year’s Walk for Beauty is Patrick Parent of Selden, owner of Legends Hair Designs, which has participated in “Cut for a Cure” for the past four years, with proceeds benefiting the Cancer Center. Legends also provides pink hair extensions at the walk, with proceeds donated to the event. A breast cancer survivor, Barbara Meringolo of Stony Brook, will also be honored this year. Breast cancer survivors will receive a special memento at the walk.
This year’s walk will be held Sunday, Oct. 14, at 9:30 a.m. at the Stony Brook Village Center
Advance registration at the discounted price of $20 ends Oct. 1. After that date, the cost will be $25. Registration forms may be obtained by calling (631) 444-4000 or by visiting www.stonybrookmedicine.edu/walkforbeauty or www.wmho.org.
