STONY BROOK, NY, June 24, 2013 – Stony Brook University has received a $35,000 gift from the Day One Foundation based in Hauppauge, NY, to support the expansion of Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, home of the most advanced pediatric specialty care in the region. The gift will be matched by an anonymous donor for a total impact of $70,000.

The funds were raised as part of the Foundation’s First Annual Day One Golf Classic held on Oct. 1, 2012, at Woodside Acres Country Club, Muttontown, NY.

Day One Foundation Chairman, Brian M. Travers, established the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2010 to raise money for economically challenged families and school districts. The goal of the foundation is to provide opportunities for success for local children in need. Travers is Managing Principal of Travers and Associates based in Hauppauge, NY.

“We could not think of a greater cause than to help assist in the building of a greatly needed Children’s Hospital on Long island,” said Travers.

Stony Brook Children’s offers a full range of comprehensive medical services for infants, children and teenagers, and provides leading-edge diagnosis, treatment and management of childhood conditions, illnesses and injuries.

The outing’s first honoree was Margaret McGovern, MD, PhD, Physician-in-Chief for Stony Brook Children’s and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics in the Stony Brook University School of Medicine.

“Through the ongoing support of community Foundation’s like the Day One Foundation, the staff of Stony Brook Children’s are able to provide optimal care to more and more children each day,” said Dr. McGovern.

Among his other philanthropic efforts, Travers is also an active member of the American Ireland Fund, a member of the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital Task Force and a member of the Wounded Warrior Project.

The next Day One Golf Classic will be held Sept. 30, 2013, also at Woodside Acres in Muttontown. Visit www.dayonefoundationgolf.com for more information.
