STONY BROOK, N.Y, May 8,  2012 – Margaret Parker, MD, FCCM, Professor of Pediatrics at Stony Brook University School of Medicine and Chief of the Critical Care Division at Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital, has been appointed Associate Editor of the iCritical Care Podcasts (www.sccm.org/iCriticalCare) of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Parker has served as a guest host focused on pediatric content for the podcasts since 2007. In her new role, Dr. Parker will develop in-depth content for the podcasts, which are consistently ranked among iTunes’ top 20 medical podcasts. She joins newly appointed hosts Jeffrey Guy, MD, MSc, MMHC, (iCritical Care Editor) and Dr. Michael S. Weinstein, MD, FACS, FCCP (iCriticalCare Associate Editor).

“Dr. Parker’s selection to provide leadership for this important resource is a reflection of how well respected she is nationally,” said Margaret M. McGovern, MD, PhD, Professor and Chairman, Department of Pediatrics, Stony Brook University School of Medicine, and Physician-in-Chief, Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital. “These podcasts offer an innovative way of providing her colleagues with valuable information from authors who have been published in respected peer-reviewed medical journals.”

The iCritical Care Podcasts feature in-depth interviews with authors from the Society’s journals, Critical Care Medicine and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, as well as with prominent members of the critical care community. In her role as associate editor, Dr. Parker will take a central role in developing pediatric content, continuing to conduct interviews with authors from Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and other pediatric critical care experts. Drs. Guy and Weinstein will focus primarily on adult content.

Launched in 2005, the iCritical Care Podcast was among the first medical podcasts featuring journal content. The iCritical Care Podcast feed can be found by searching “SCCM” at iTunes. A special iTunes subscription feed also is available featuring pediatric content exclusively.
