STONY BROOK & RIVERHEAD, NY, August 7, 2013 – buncee® an award-winning start-up company based in Riverhead that provides digital creative content to those who do not have the tech savvy to develop their own, is relocating from its Riverhead office into 1,230 square-feet of space at the Stony Brook University Incubator at Calverton. At the new location, buncee’s current staff of eight will have space and resources to grow to the next level, including user training facilities, networking opportunities, and strategic planning support.
Started out of a need to find a more flexible and creative way to send digital thank you notes and messages to supporters of the family charity, the Daniella Maria Arturi Foundation (named in honor of Arturi’s daughter who lost her life to the rare blood disorder, Diamond Blackfan Anemia), buncee has been relying on Stony Brook resources long before making the decision to pursue space in the Calverton Incubator. According to buncee CEO, Marie Arturi, four Stony Brook graduates are currently working at buncee; three of them with degrees in computer science and another who received a Master’s in Applied Math at Stony Brook. In addition, buncee enjoys an ongoing relationship with Stony Brook University’s Career Center. Such activities include the university’s STEM Job Fair and the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences Corporate Breakfast Mixer, as well as a recent collaboration with Stony Brook faculty and two teams of MBA students who utilized the buncee platform and business use case to complete course credits required for graduation.
“Our entire tech team is comprised of Stony Brook graduates,” said Arturi. “The caliber of talent that comes out of that University is unmatched, and we look forward to hiring more Stony Brook students in the future. I can only imagine that someday Stony Brook University will be to buncee what Stanford University was to Google!””
The company has also been receiving strategic consulting services and funding referrals through the University-based entrepreneur-in-residence services in the Center of Excellence for Wireless and Information Technology.
“The buncee team is a very capable team,” said Larry Weber, Entrepreneur in Residence and Business Development Manager, who pointed Ms. Arturi and buncee in the direction of the Calverton Incubator. “I have been working with buncee for the past 12 months and they have been aggressively refining their offering and revenue strategy, while leveraging their efforts via Stony Brook University resources and identifying new markets. It looks to me that they have assembled the elements of success.”
As part of the Calverton Business Incubator, buncee will be in an environment that fosters its development surrounded by individuals who understand the challenges of working in a start-up environment. Monique Gablenz, Director of SBU’s Calverton Business Incubator said that Stony Brook University is thrilled to welcome buncee as a new tenant.
“We’re excited to support and accelerate the growth of this exciting company through access to the vast resources of the University’s Economic Development Office, including networking alliances, small business development resources and facilities that will help them get to the next level.”
