Gloria Snyder Assumes Leadership Role for Stony Brook Medicine

Stony Brook University alumnus to oversee group’s role in furthering medical mission

STONY BROOK, N.Y., February 21, 2012 – Gloria Snyder has been named Chair of the Stony Brook Medicine Development Council effective Jan. 1, 2012.

Snyder has been a member of the council since it was established in 2008 by philanthropic community members to help Stony Brook Medicine advance its mission of delivering world class medical care. As Chair, Snyder intends to recruit additional members to the Council, strengthen the Council’s advocacy activities, and increase community awareness of and engagement in Stony Brook Medicine programs, faculty and leadership.     

Stony Brook Medicine integrates and elevates all of Stony Brook University’s health-related initiatives: education, research and patient care. It includes five Health Sciences schools — Dental Medicine, Health Technology and Management, Medicine, Nursing and Social Welfare — as well as Stony Brook University Hospital and 35 community-based healthcare settings throughout Suffolk County. 

Snyder is currently Vice President of Mark J. Snyder Financial Services, Inc., a full-service financial consulting firm. For 28 years, she owned and operated Specialties Galore, Ltd., a product fundraising company. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from American University and her Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook University.  

Snyder is actively involved as a member of the Stony Brook Alumni Association and is the association’s Immediate Past President. She serves as an executive board member of the Stony Brook University Hospital Auxiliary and has been a member of the Stony Brook Medicine Development Council since its inception in 2008.

She lives in Belle Terre with her husband, Mark.
