STONY BROOK, NY, March 7, 2012 – Stony Brook University is hosting the “Festival of the Moving Body” on Saturday, March 17 from 10 am to 4:30 pm in the Charles B. Wang Center. The daylong event features experts from around the world who will share their ideas, research, creative work and interdisciplinary thinking through various mediums including film, dance, interactive art, panel discussions, somatic education and more to demonstrate and explore the positive relationship between movement, creativity and imagination with holistic health, recovery and well-being.

“We underutilize the vast potential of the human body,” said Amy Yopp Sullivan, Associate Professor of Dance and Somatics at Stony Brook University and Director of The Center for Dance, Movement and Somatic Learning. “The moving body has the ability to transform a singular and self-sufficient life into one of relational, creative, and imaginative possibilities, promoting change and well-being.”

Tickets to the Festival cost $15 if preregistered by March 13 or $20 at the door. The public is also invited to attend the Friday evening Summit Performance, “The Moving Body in Performance – World Class Dance Companies and Dancers Respond to Health, Creativity and the Human Experience,” on March 16 at 7 pm in the Charles B. Wang Center Theater. Tickets to the performance cost $10 for students and $15 for the general public. The Festival is open to everyone 15 years and older. For further information please contact (631) 632-6320.
