Med Students “Match” to Leading Programs in New York, Nationwide
Stony Brook, NY – March 24, 2015 – 115 fourth-year Stony Brook University School of Medicine students matched to residency programs in New York and 17 other states at this year’s Match Day, an annual event when more than 25,000 graduating medical students find out where they will launch their medical careers as resident physicians. Most residency programs begin July 1.

Collectively, the Class of 2015 will train in a total of 22 medical specialties, such as Psychiatry, Radiology and Neurology. Approximately one-third of the Class will enter primary care specialties, which include Pediatrics, Internal Medicine and Family Medicine. The top five specialties the Class matched to are Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery and Urology.
“Our fourth-year medical students have matched to many highly competitive residency programs in our region and around the country,” said Kenneth Kaushansky, MD, MACP, Senior Vice President of the Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine. “This is the result of their hard work and our school’s commitment to preparing students for residency training by creating a broad-based curriculum, research opportunities for students, and an ever-expending venue for clinical skills training.”
Students matched to residency programs at institutions such as Stony Brook Medicine, Weil Cornell and Columbia University Medical Centers in New York, Yale-New Haven Hospital, Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Duke University Medical Center, the University of Pennsylvania, the Cleveland Clinic, and UCLA Medical Center in California. Twelve members of the Class of 2015 matched to Stony Brook.
Shouts of joy and celebrations abounded at the event, as students opened envelopes which revealed their program match. For more about Stony Brook Match Day 2015, see this video.
