Hamptons Heart Ball Honors Stony Brook University President

STONY BROOK, NY, JULY 2, 2014 – The American Heart Association honored Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD, Stony Brook University President at the 18th Annual Hamptons Heart Ball, which was set on the grounds of the Hayground Schoolin Bridgehampton, NY on June 28. Nationally syndicated TV host Rita Crosby served as Master of Ceremonies.
In front of a sold out crowd of 750 guests, Kenneth Kaushansky, MD, Senior Vice President, Health Sciences, and Dean, Stony Brook University School of Medicine introduced Dr. Stanley as the Distinguished Leadership Honoree. Dr. Stanley was presented with this award because of his continued dedication to the American Heart Association’s mission of fighting heart diseases and stroke. This award also highlighted Dr. Stanley’s leadership in the community and his focus on areas of academia, medicine and research.

Stanley Jr., MD. “Stony Brook University is committed to fight heart disease and stroke through research and medical innovation. We support the American Heart Association’s mission of educating the community about these fatal diseases and generating funding for important research that will save lives.”
L. Reuven Pasternak, Chief Executive Officer, Stony Brook University Hospital, and Vice President for Health Systems, Stony Brook Medicine also attended the Ball. The medical center was the signature sponsor of the event.
With nearly 10,000 Long Islanders falling victim to heart disease and stroke each year, the American Heart Association knows the importance of education and community programs, research and advocacy. The Heart Ball is one of the premier American Heart Association fundraising events both locally and across the nation. The evening celebrates the lives saved and improved because of everyone’s countless efforts.
Last year, the Heart Ball campaign raised just over $51 million nation-wide allowing the American Heart Association to fund over $123 million of research and programs across the country and in your community.
