Stony Brook Medicine Chief Human Resources Officer Receives SUNY Lifetime Achievement Award
Elizabeth McCoy recognized for more than 25 years of service to SUNY system
STONY BROOK, NY, October 18, 2013 – Elizabeth McCoy, Chief Human Resources Officer for Stony Brook University Hospital, has received the Lifetime Achievement in Human Resources Award from the State University of New York Human Resources Association (SUHRA) in recognition of her career contributions to the field of human resources and her impact on the Stony Brook campus community.

McCoy, who received the award on Oct. 2 at the 2013 SUHRA Annual Conference in Buffalo, has worked in the State University of New York (SUNY) system since 1987. She served 12 years as Associate Director of Employee Relations in SUNY Administration in Albany before joining SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn in 1999. A year later, she joined Stony Brook University Hospital, where she served as Director of Employee and Labor Relations until 2007, when she was named Chief Human Resources Officer.

She is a role model and mentor to her staff and hospital leadership. Her professional and ethical standards are evidenced by her commitment to excellence.”
The SUHRA Lifetime Achievement Award in Human Resources is bestowed to individuals who have been employed in the human resources field for at least 20 years, with at least 10 years at one or more SUNY campuses or with SUNY System Administration. Recipients must demonstrate sustained commitment to the field of human resources, seek creative solutions in changing environments, recommend and actively support initiatives that advance human resources practices and enrich their campus communities. Recipients also share information, resources and best practices; serve as mentors or role models to colleagues; and adhere to ethical and professional standards.
“Liz’s extensive knowledge and expertise in the human resources field assists Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook Medicine and our campus to achieve our strategic goals,” Dr. Pasternak said. “She serves as a valued resource with colleagues on campus in addition to those at other SUNY campuses.”
McCoy received her bachelor of arts degree in history with honors from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. She received her master’s degree in business administration from Columbia University Graduate School of Business. In addition to her tenure at SUNY, she served as Director of Personnel for the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and as Dean of Personnel Administration for Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT, where she also taught undergraduate courses in personnel administration.
