Advanced Energy Conference to Focus on Clean Energy Initiatives, Latest Developments
NY State’s Premier Advanced Energy Conference to be held at Hyatt Regency Buffalo Hotel and Conference Center on October 12-13; Industry leaders to highlight clean energy policies and initiatives
STONY BROOK, NY, September 30, 2011 – The future of clean and renewable energy technology will be showcased at the Advanced Energy 2011 conference on October 12-13 at the Hyatt Regency in Buffalo, NY, where a broad range of speakers and attendees will discuss and present some of the latest developments in advanced energy technology, policy and workforce issues.
Advanced Energy 2011, produced by the Advanced Energy Research & Technology Center (AERTC) at Long Island’s Stony Brook University, will feature presentations by regional and national experts in clean energy technology striving to enhance electric power systems and lay the groundwork for economic development and environmental benefits. The goal of this annual conference, now in its fifth year, is to share information that may lead to the production of cleaner, more efficient energy, sustained economic growth and the creation of thousands of new jobs.
“We are proud that the Advanced Energy Research & Technology Center at Stony Brook University is at the forefront of creating this forum to help advance the latest energy technologies,” said Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD, President of Stony Brook University. “It opens doors for researchers, academics, policymakers and industry professionals to build relationships, collaborate on ideas and learn about what is happening in the quickly evolving world of advanced energy today.”
“Advanced Energy 2011 is a great opportunity for leaders from every sector of the energy economy to gather, share ideas and learn from each other about the future of energy research, new energy technologies and clean energy technology in the 21st century,” said Robert Catell, Chairman of the AERTC Board of Advisors and Chairman of the NYS SmartGrid Consortium Board of Directors. “The conference will focus on several key areas including smart grid technology, solar power, battery and energy storage and offshore wind.” He noted that BioEnergy, building efficiency, natural gas supply and demand, emerging energy companies, advanced transportation and electric vehicles will be among the other topics addressed.
“New York is a leader in the clean energy sector due to the strategic partnerships between academia and the private and public sectors,” said Francis J. Murray Jr., President and CEO of NYSERDA. “Advanced Energy 2011 allows the leaders in clean energy the opportunity to develop the partnerships that lead to energy-efficient technological advances as well as economic growth and job creation in this sector.”
“If we expect to meet our nation’s growing energy demands while reducing our reliance on carbon-based fuels, we’ll need to foster strong public-private partnerships that span the entire energy spectrum – from basic research to commercialization of technologies that vastly improve energy generation, distribution, and end use,” said Sam Aronson, Director of Brookhaven National Laboratory. “The Advanced Energy Conference is key to this effort because it brings together all the energy interests within New York State to discuss the state-of-the-art in the field and explore new directions and collaborations – both within the state and across the nation.”
“The innovative and critically important topics of this conference make it a must for anyone interested in the future of the energy industry,” said Kenneth D. Daly, president of National Grid in New York, a major sponsor of the event. “National Grid’s vision is to bring innovation in energy management to our customers, and we look forward to participating in these forums that will help all of us on that path.”
“The City University of New York (CUNY) has been leading efforts to build a clean energy infrastructure in NYC. We believe that this Advanced Energy Conference can assist us in actualizing these initiatives,” said Lisa Staiano-Coico, CUNY President. “There is much to be learned by combining the innovative technological approaches emerging from our leading researchers at the City College of New York (CCNY) and from innovators like those who will be gathered at the Conference. Collaboration at events such as this can help catalyze the growth of a clean energy economy.”
