CNRN was selected as the Nurse of Excellence candidate to represent Stony Brook University Medical Center at the annual “Nurse of Excellence” awards ceremony hosted by the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council.

Byers, a certified neurology nurse practitioner, has worked at Stony Brook for eight years. She spearheaded the Code BAT “Brain Attack Team,” a program that has resulted in a dramatic reduction in response times for acute stroke patient care at Stony Brook.

“Ann Marie is largely responsible for Stony Brook’s achievements of both the Department of Health’s Acute Stroke Unit Designation and the Joint Commissions prestigious Accreditation award,” said Lee Xippolitos RN, PhD, Chief Nursing Officer at SBUMC. “She is a true example of an exemplary nurse at Stony Brook.”

Debra Sansoucie, Ed D RN, clinical associate professor of the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program, was selected as the Nurse of Excellence candidate to represent the Stony Brook University School of Nursing. She was unable to attend the ceremony.
