Grad Student Receives Environmental Chemistry Award

American Chemical Society recognized only 23 graduate students nationwide

STONY BROOK, NY, March 27, 2012 – Shen Zhao, a PhD student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stony Brook University, was recently awarded a 2012 Graduate Student Award from the American Chemical Society’s Division of Environmental Chemistry. He is one of only 23 graduate students nationwide selected for this award. Shen graduated from Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China, in 2008. 

Shen’s research, under the direction of Dr. Alexander Orlov, Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, focuses on the development of novel nanomaterials for environmental and energy applications. In recognition of this award, Shen has been given a one-year membership to the Division of Environmental Chemistry and a monetary award. His research has already resulted in four journal publications and eight conference presentations. Shen resides in St. James, NY.
