As reported in USA Today, the undergraduate applied mathematics program at Stony Brook University is the fourth best in the country, with reputation for providing students with an excellent education highlighted by small class sizes and research opportunities.

“The undergraduate applied mathematics program is a top choice for students interested in entering actuarial science, engineering, systems analysis, operations research and more,” states USA Today. “The program is designed to teach students how to tackle problems using mathematical techniques. It is one of the largest science majors at Stony Brook and one of the best applied mathematics programs in the country. Graduates if this program earn an average starting salary of $53,000.”

Stony Brook’s applied mathematics program combines general mathematics with special mathematical models and formulas used in fields of engineering, science, medicine and business. Students are taught how to solve specific problems using mathematics formulas and algorithms, making them very valuable to employers. Graduates leave with advanced critical and analytical thinking skills.

The top 10 schools for applied mathematics in the U.S. list comes from College Factual and is a ranking of colleges based on their overall quality. These schools offer programs that challenge students and prepare graduates to become leaders in their field.
