“Seawolves Know Better. Seawolves Do Better” Showcases Students’ Safe and Healthy Behavior

The “Seawolves Know Better. Seawolves Do Better” campaign was created to reinforce students’ commitment to keeping each other safe, both on- and off-campus. It features student leaders who positively influence their peers and highlights those who are doing the right thing to ensure that the Stony Brook community can continue on the path of overall success during the pandemic.

SeawolvesThe campaign features a series of videos created by students who are living off-campus in a variety of environments — some live in apartments with roommates, others live at home with parents. These short videos highlight the actions they’ve taken to keep themselves and their community safe while continuing to make the most of their college experience without putting themselves and others at risk, such as video chatting with friends instead of visiting them, hosting game nights with roommates, taking the family pet for a walk with loved ones, or buying a ping pong table to stay active inside the house.

“When we came up with the idea, we really wanted to emphasize how proud we are of the work that our students are doing to limit the spread of COVID-19. With countless regional and national examples of college campus outbreaks, we wanted to promote the importance of self-accountability — that there are steps that each and every student can take to take care of their health and that of those around them,” said Emily Snyder, Director of Student Community Development.

The campaign will continue in the Spring 21 semester. All students living off-campus are encouraged to participate by submitting their videos at Those who participate and have their video selected to be featured on various University Instagram pages, including Commuter Student Services and Off-Campus Living’s page, will be entered into a drawing to receive a Seawolves swag bag from the Department of Student Community Development.

This campaign is presented by the Department of Student Community Development in collaboration with many campus partners including the Office of Student Life, Community Relations, Commuter Student Services and Off-Campus Living, Student Engagement and Activities, Department of Athletics, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Center for Prevention and Outreach and the University Police Department.
