Sarah Ghandour
Hometown: Atherton, California
Major/Degree: DMA in Music
Departmental advisors/research mentors: Colin Carr
Ghandour received a Fulbright Research Award to Slovenia, where she will research and learn folk and classical Slovenian music. She will conduct research in the archives at the University of Ljubljana, investigating manuscripts of 20th century Slovenian composers that have not yet been digitized. Ghandour will also research Slovenian folk music and its connection to Middle Eastern musical traditions by conducting fieldwork consisting of interviews with Arab families who are a part of the music community in Ljubljana. Her Fulbright year will culminate in giving a thematic concert that showcases the multicultural vernacular of Slovenian music. Ghandour will also join the Slovenian Alpine Association to engage with the considerable native hiker community on expeditions to historic mountain huts nestled in the famed Slovenian Alpine peaks. She will hike with her cello and perform for hikers in the mountain huts, interacting with the Slovenian climbing community through music.
In 2017-18, Ghandour received the Harriet Hale Woolley Scholarship and Artist Residency in Paris, France.
Welldone, Max! Wishing lots of success with your research project as Fulbright Scholar in Stockholm.
