Record-Breaking 14 SBU Students Receive Prestigious Fulbright Scholarships

Major/Degree: Journalism, English and Women’s and Gender Studies minors

Departmental advisors/research mentors: Barbara Selvin, Irene Virag, Terence Sheridan

Nassiri received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award in Taiwan. She plans on bringing her background in journalism and experience as news editor of The Statesman to facilitate a student-created newspaper club. Through newsgathering, she wants to build confidence within her students by encouraging them to explore their local communities, publishing tangible work and encouraging creative application of their English language skills.

Nassiri is a 2022 Modern Language Association (MLA) student essay contest winner, and was previously a multimedia intern at the American Civil Liberties Union and an animation production intern at Sesame Workshop.
