New Online Resource for Creating LGBTQ-friendly Classroom

Lgbtq flag

Members of the Department of Psychology and Center for Prevention and Outreach, with the assistance of a Presidential Mini-Grant for Diversity Initiatives, have created a website to provide faculty members, instructors and TAs with information on creating an LGBTQ-friendly educational experience for students (LGBTQ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning).

In developing the site, the group surveyed faculty and students at Stony Brook University and across the country. They received hundreds of responses about good and bad experiences in the classroom, problems people were struggling with and things people found helpful. The information contained in the site reflects these responses.

Please take a look at the site for information, resources and suggestions on how to build an accepting, safe, affirmative environment for LGBTQ students both inside and outside of the classroom. You can also visit the feedback page and let the team know what you think.
