The indie film Sensitive and in Love — largely based on research done at Stony Brook University — will have its world premiere on Wednesday, January 29, at the prestigious Directors Guild of America Theater in New York City. The film was created by Stony Brook Psychology Professor Dr. Arthur Aron and Research Scientist Dr. Elaine Aron, along with their colleague Dr. Bianca Acevedo, who earned her PhD at Stony Brook as a Turner Fellow and is now a researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Sensitive and in Love follows in the footsteps of Drs. Arthur and Elaine Aron’s previous film, Sensitive: The Untold Story (2015) featuring Alanis Morissette. It is intended to relay to the public (with case examples) the many complexities and intricacies of being highly sensitive in interpersonal relationships. It was created to raise awareness about the trait and show how it is part of normal human variation.
While based on solid science, the movie tells a fictional story about love and family. Rob and Jessica, brother and sister and both highly sensitive, share a traumatic childhood that, because of their sensitivity, has left them both especially wounded and vulnerable in their relationships. Fate forces them to face their demons and embrace what seemed to them an unbearable trait.
Tickets are tax deductible, with all proceeds going to the Foundation for the Study of Highly Sensitive Persons (501c3) to continue education and research on the trait of high sensitivity.
Doors open at 6 pm and showtime is at 7 pm, followed by a Q&A.
