Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrates 30 Years at Stony Brook

Hispanic top image 1October 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of Hispanic Heritage Month at Stony Brook University. A variety of events and activities have been planned as we focus attention on the Latino community, provide educational opportunities, celebrate achievements, and present many diverse aspects of Latino culture.

Wednesday, October 2
Mexico 500+ Colloquium, 12 pm to 5 pm, Humanities, Room 1008
This one-day mini-colloquium commemorates 500 years of writing and producing global knowledge in and about Mexico.

Wednesday, October 9
30th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Opening Ceremony, 1 pm to 2:20 pm, Student Activities Center, Ballroom A
Light cultural refreshments will be served; all are invited.

Saturday, October 26
Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater, 8 pm, Staller Center, Main Stage
See Spanish culture come alive with Ensemble Español, the premier Spanish dance company in the US, with 40 dancers, singers, and musicians performing folkloric, classical, flamenco and contemporary styles. Buy tickets

Wednesday, October 30
30th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Closing Ceremony, 3 pm to 5 pm, Student Activities Center, Ballroom A
Celebrate as faculty, staff and students of Hispanic/Latino descent are recognized for their roles as community advocates, leaders and outstanding academics. A traditional dinner will be served. Reserve your spot online now.
